Milijas lasts 61 minutes for Serbia

13 06 2010

Milijas played in the same team as Birmingham's new signing Nikola Zigic.

Nenad Milijas lasted just 61 minutes in Serbia’s 1-0 defeat to Ghana in Pretoria.

He looked far from fully fit and was replaced by Zdravko Kuzmanovic with a third of the game still to go.

Kuzmanovic went on to concede a penalty that Ghana subsequently scored with under ten minutes left.

In line with the way the rest of the tournament has gone so far, the game was far from a classic with shots on goal at a premium.

Nenad Milijas starts for Serbia

13 06 2010

Milijas will play alongside Dejan Stankovic in the centre of Serbia's midfield.

Wolves midfielder Nenad Milijas starts for Serbia in their opening game against Ghana today.

I wasn’t sure whether he’d start after mixed reviews during the warm up games but he has made the first eleven.

*Adlene Guedioura came on late on for Algeria in their 1-0 defeat to Slovenia. Ex-WBA midfielder Robert Koren scored the goal after a second goalkeeping howler in Group C within 24 hours.

Guedioura misses out on starting place

13 06 2010

Guedioura played in Algeria's recent warm-up game against Ireland.

Wolves midfielder Adlene Guedioura has missed out o a starting place for Algeria in their opening World Cup game against Slovenia today.

I expected Gueds to line up in central midfield but obviously the Algerian’s don’t rate him as highly as we do.

Ah well, let’s hope Milijas starts later. Here’s the Algerian team in full.

Algeria: 16-Faouzi Chaouchi; 2 Majid Bougherra, 5 Rafik Halliche, 4 Antar Yahia, 3 Nadir Belhadj; 13 Karim Matmour, 19 Hassan Yebda, 8 Medhi Lacen, 15 Karim Ziani; 21 Fouad Kadir, 11 Rafik Djebbour.

Marcus Hahnemann plays a half for the USA

5 06 2010

Hahnemann replaced Tim Howard for the second half

Wolves goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann today played around 45 minutes for the USA in their 3-1 win over Australia.

Edson Buggle bagged a brace for the USA either side of Tim Cahill’s equaliser. Herculez Gomez rounded off the scoring in the 90th minute.

Later:

17:00 – Algeria v UAE

Adlene Guedioura

19:30 – Serbia v Cameroon

Nenad Milijas

Milijas an unused sub as Serbia draw a blank

2 06 2010

Milijas has 16 caps for Serbia.

Nenad Milijas was an unused substitute in Serbia’s final warm-up game before the World Cup.

Serbia faced Poland at the FC Kufstein stadium in Austria and Milijas’ central midfield slot was taken by Zdravko Kuzmanovic of Stuttgart.

After not featuring much this season, Milijas will be hoping to impress Mick McCarthy by some impressive displays in South Africa, where McCarthy will analyse matches for the BBC.

Guedioura and Milijas book their place on the plane to South Africa!

2 06 2010

Wolves had no players at the 2006 finals in Germany.

Wolves midfielders Adlene Guedioura and Nenad Milijas have been named in their respective countrys’ 23-man squad for the FIFA World Cup finals in South Africa.

This means there will be a trio of Wolves players at the finals with two expected to play for their countries.

Guedioura recently played 90 minutes at right back for Algeria in Ireland whilst Milijas played the first 45 minutes of Serbia’s friendly against New Zealand last week.

The USA arrived in South Africa two days ago and although he is in the squad, Marcus Hahnemann is unlucky to dislodge Tim Howard from the number one slot.

Jody Craddock misses out on World Cup

11 05 2010

Craddock has been outstanding for Wolves this season!

Wolves’ player of the season Jody Craddock has failed to make Fabio Capello’s provisional 30-man England squad.

This will come as shock news to most Wolves fans who thought he was set for a call-up.

Unlucky Jody my son!

Wishful thinking anyway!
