The Hoff kicks off!

Stefan Maierhofer has launched a stinging attack on Wolves manager Mick McCarthy after he was loaned out to Bristol City earlier this week.

He made his debut in the 3-2 defeat to Plymouth at Home Park last night but the Austrian is not happy with McCarthy. In an interview to the Daily Star, he said:

“I don’t have a clue why I’ve not been in the team. I work hard in training, yet others get to play. Why have Wolves signed me only to not use me? Kevin Doyle cost £6.5million, so he has to play yet he has just got six goals in 25 games, which is not a great deal.

“The manager told me I lacked match practice after my operation. Then Andy Keogh came back from a three-month lay-off, trained for two days and then played against Bolton and Manchester United. I feel like they are taking the p*** out of me.”

My verdict: Calm down Hoff, in the time we have seen you so far, you haven’t won a single header. You are the tallest EPL player at 6ft7 and you need to justify your pricetag. Do your time at Ashton Gate, prove to us you have more than height in your locker and then come back and do your stuff for Wolves!

Bristol City swap Wolves strikers

Maierhoffer has made eight appearances this season, scoring one goal.

Stefan Maierhofer has moved to Bristol City on a one month loan according to the striker’s official website/facebook page.

Other press reports are also suggesting that Maierhofer is set to replace the returning Chris Iwelumo on loan at Bristol City and the move is imminent.

Reports in both the Daily Mail and Express & Star suggest that Gary Johnson is keen to keep a target man in the Bristol City ranks and it seems ‘The Hoff’ fits the bill.

Maierhofer is quoted on ‘www.stefan-maierhofer.com’ as saying: “I can confirm that I am now given one month at Bristol City and look forward to playing there and show my performance.

“On the one hand I am very proud to have done it here (played at Wolves), for me anyway it is not the end of the flagpole. I will also establish myself here and play if I can. That is why I moved to Bristol City!

“Most recently there had been discussions with the Queens Park Rangers, but they yielded no results. I am glad that it is now worked for a month with Bristol City and I am able to play and I’m very hot on it again!”

A lack of club appearances has also resulted in Maierhoffer’s omission from the Austrian national side.

He added: “Of course. I also had a conversation with him (the Austrian manager) in which he confirmed to me that I am an important part of the team for him. Because of a lack of match practice he has not summoned me this time, which for me is perfectly ok. That’s why the move to Bristol City, with good performances on the pitch, I can re-impose on the national team.

Iwelumo returned to Molineux today following a loan spell at Ashton Gate and will now be trying to impress McCarthy in an attempt to gatecrash Wolves’ squad for Saturday’s derby at Villa.

My verdict: Not a bad move considering Iwelumo now has some games under his belt and will be more match fit than Hoff. Let’s hope both can make an impact for Wolves in the final stages of the season.
